The family ties seemed more important to SSX in the novel, certainly. Then again you've got love someone pretty bad to throw yourself to your death when you get the bad news..
I think the games have based it on the amount of time she spent there. Its a bit like Jiang Wei. He was in Wei but he was in Shu for longer, so thats where he's listed. SSX spent two levels with Liu Bei.. kinda.

Well being part of the Sun family, she should be in Shu however after discovering Zhou Yu's plot, she stays with Liu Bei. I agree with tigerslayer that she is divided.

Sun Shang Xiang is in a bit of a mess that is how much I do agree. She is deeply in lose with Liu Bei but she is in family with Sun Jian. She also only fall in love with Liu Bei for some odd reason that she see's her dead brother in that time Sun Ce in Liu Bei. In my opinion Sun Ce is not really close at the same attitude as Liu Bei since that he is a lot more hot headed.

It's 50/50 for me. I see and agree with both arguments so I can't decided on one over the other.

She is a Sun and she would never betray her family. So she should stay in Wu.

Jian Tong you are wrong by the way she did betray her brother when they attacked the wu. The death of the God of War Guan Yu made Liu Bei attack the Wu army and she attacked with the Shu army but when she was one against one with Sun Quan she could not kill him so it is still hard to say if she did or did not betray them.

What?
Sun Shangxiang never betrayed Sun Quan, for he actually sent her to Liu Bei as a type of gift for an alliance with Shu. And historically she never fought, so neither man's life rested on her hands. However, she did "betray" Liu Bei by attempting to return to Wu with her son, without permission from her husband. She was stopped from bringing Liu Shan along, so alone she returned to Wu. This was the end of her marriage to Liu Bei, and the two never met again.
Note that this occured in 211, while Guan Yu's death was AFTERWARDS in 219.

I am guessing one of are information source has been tempered with.

I am pretty sure that my source was accurate, drawn from the historical records. And first, women could not participate in war at all during the time. Second, Guan Yu's death is very widely accepted as occuring in the year 219.
The Sanguo Yanyi, also known as the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, claims that Shangxiang did fall in love with Liu Bei, and that she drowned herself in the river after Bei's death at Yiling (no, he didn't die in-battle). However, the drowning occurance has no historical proof at all.

Either way on the next game she should be purely a character on one force or the other. At the moment she is sort of half and half so your disappointed whatever way you want it.

Well, seeing that Dynasty Warriors is based more on the fictional sources rather than historical events, I doubt that it will ever erase the Shang Xiang x Liu Bei relationship. And every girl in the games is involved in some romantic situation, so yeah. Though they SHOULD make Shang Xiang devoted entirely to Wu.
