I'm curious to know what sort of mythical beasts interest people ;D I would have to say the classic dragons are what hold my interest as they can be just about anything. What are yours?

Ooh! I call Cthulhu! Does Cthulhu count? No wait... he's real.
I'd have to go with Vampires. The hardcore Nosferatu vampires, not the modern Mary Sue vampires.

Pikachu.
I'm an avid fan of supernatural shit and movies.
Dog Soldiers made me love werewolves. Not the greatest of movies, but they did the werewolf lore justice.
Hellsing made me love vampires. Which is one of the reasons why I hate Twilight to the core.
Supernatural made me love demons, cause they're just frikin kickass in the series.
And I think Legion is going to make me love angels, once it comes out. =D
There's a lot more... But I'm too tired from prac to think of them now. >_>

Definitely dragons. Western or Eastern, it doesn't matter. Oh and I have a thing for nine-tailed foxes too, if they count? I blame Ookami.

A Koi fish is a real fish but I'm pretty certain that it has occured in mythical tales where it is a God or a cursed woman.

I went off Kitsune after one of my fellow gamers made a D&D character with the Kitsune template which was impossible to hit. All in the rules, mind you, so there was nothing I could do about it. It does give me a valid excuse for hating them though. ^_^

I prefer Nekomata No Nibi compared to the older cousin Kyuubi No Yokai, that cursed fox killed my kitty demon *grumbles in a corner*

Well it is cool that you guys like dragons and all that but I do not really consider them in the mystical creature. Dragons were invented at the theme that they were close to Dinosaur so what you love about the dragon is basically only a large lizard. Also the thing about vampire is that they are only got people that turned them self insane with all the black magic and they decided to kill people for blood then horror people decided to make it like they drank the blood. I am a werewolf fan my self cause there sort are really mystical if you thing about it.

Mythical favorite.....Cerberus, the three headed dog at the gates of hades Second this guy Hellhounds, Vampires and Demons get my vote. Hellhounds are simply badass tbf Vampires have different angles and potential plots compared with Werewolves, whom I see as a bit more (Not saying they are completely) one dimensional in comparison. Demons are the same as Vampires but I love playing them way more in an rp because they can have so many options. Weak, Strong, Bad, Rebellious, Vicious, Cunning, Merciless. Then of course you can pretty much sculpt their physical appearance however you want with some clever wordplay, they really are an incredibly varied species.
