Wow where do you get the info? I'm a ninja, who hides in the shadows of the KOEI and Omega Force Office buildings, lying in wait...LOL.

From the looks of some of those images, it seems most likely that Koei is taking away some of the fantasy aspect of the game and making it more realistic. I only looked at specific pictures mind, but those were of the ones that had weapons that really weren't used by the character in the RoTK book, from what I can remember.
Liu Bei had two swords; its funny, in the book it says "the smiths made Liu Bei a pair of ancient swords" which brings to mind...how exactly do you make an ancient sword? >_> But then you here that Koei gives him two swords in this
There was no mention of SSX holding chakrams and so they've been cut for a bow, something more realistic easily.
As for Sun Ce, in the first chapter I could find about him, he is said to have taken up a spear for a battle, and now they are removing the tonfa, and giving him a spear-like weapon.
Another is Cao Ren, the picture looks like he has a real buckler shield now for his left arm, and some odd weapon for his right, though in the book, the only weapon I saw he used was a whip.
Some in all, it seems like they are working the game onto the path so that its true to history. Though I think it would really suck is they removed some of those.

Er, are you sure they are cutting Da Qiao out? Er, thats stupid. Make her appearance, and leave Xiao in? They are so much better together.
EDIT: Oh, and any info on the american release dates?

I'm afraid so. It's been a problem for most people that Xiao Qiao is there, but Da Qiao is not. Many people suspect that Xiao Qiao is there because she and Zhou Yu were married longer than Sun Ce and Da Qiao. I don't know. But those people who have the game in China say that there is not trace of Da Qiao anywhere. She's gone. She's not even a secret.
Jiang Wei and Pang De are gone also, along with some generic officers. This is leading many people to suspect that there is either:
1) Downloadable Content
2) They will return in Empires or Xrteme Legends.
Who knows.

American Release: Ah, now it's your turn!
Gamestop has this dates listed:
PS3- 02/19/08
Xbox 360 03/25/08
However, it's confusing that they would release the same game for two different systems, on two different dates. My conclusion is that Sony Playstation gets to go first because that is were Dynasty Warriors orginated, not Xbox.
The most common release date for the longest time was 03/25/07. Now it could be spectulation, but some think that perhaps nobody knew about the "different system" release bit.

and, as usual, Europe gets it last. that is really annoying as well.
what i am shocked at is that they are taking away characters. in my view, You can't just take away one Qiao and leave in the other, its pointless. then Pang De is a great character who would have been great for Wei and Jiang Wei was one of my favorite characters, why didn't they just take out Pang Tong or someone else? he only ever does one thing in it.

I think you mean /08 instead of /07 Sima Yanos is right, instead of the characters that actually had an impact on the Three Kingdoms era, like Jiang Wei, they should remove those that were only ever part of one or two battles. I guess we can only hope that they will offer the other characters in XL or Empires, or possibly to download them.

Well, they removed characters like Xing Cai and Zuo Ci, who had no business being there in the first place.
