Roleplay Awards

I've been to a lot of boards, and in every single one of these boards, there is a common trend that is always present. It is a celebration of sorts, an event where the deserving role-players are given the recognition and acknowledgment. Yeah, you might have guessed it. It's called the Roleplay Awards. What is the Roleplay Awards? Well, think along the lines of Grammy Awards, or MTV Awards, or whatever. We have categories, and we vote people into those categories.

Voting lines closes. And the winners of each category are released in a single post. And voila, recognition given. It may not seem much, but trust me, being labeled as a top among the rest can give quite an achieving feeling. Trust me. I've hosted and won RP Awards in plenty of other boards before. Anyway, after looking around a bit, I figured if this suggestion would be sanctioned, I might as well provide some categories for ideas.

• Best Roleplayer
  Here is quite a hard award to give indeed. Please take note of the word 'roleplayer'. That means that this award mainly focuses on someone who has been role-playing his character well, making threads interesting and fun to be in. He may be a hero, he may be a jerk, he may be a villian, he may be a philanthropist, whoever and whatever, as long as you enjoy roleplaying with this guy, he deserves this award.
  
  
• The Underdog
  Up-coming major players are always fun to have, and here is a way to recognise some of them! Does any of the new characters interest you? Do you think they will be important in the future?
  
  
• The Sapphire
  Only for those of Wei. Which among the characters of Wei do you think has been contributing the most to the country, IC-wise? Which among the officers of Wei do you think deserves to be recognised? This is for that person.
  
  
• The Ruby
  The same, but for Wu.
  
  
• The Emerald
  And now for Shu.
  
  
• Best Male
  Which among the males have proven himself worthy of a manly title? Is he proud? Is he strong? Does he remind you of one of Leonidas' Spartans? Then he deserves this. =D
  
  
• Best Female
  And now it's the females. Of course, females only.
  
  
• Best Fighter
  Who is the best fighter in a one-on-one combat? Who would you fear crossing swords with in the battlefield?
  
  
• Best Strategist
  Among all the officers in the board, who among them is the most cunning and resourceful of strategist? The man who can defeat a thousand with just a hundred, just with a little brain blast?
  
  
• Best Looks
  The character who stands out to you by their looks, and the way they are able to portray them, through pictures, description and whatnot.
  
  
• Most Developed Character:
  Has this character gone a long way from how he/she started as? Has he/she matured, gotten stronger, all those shit? Then, pick him/her.
  
  
• Most Original Character:
  Is there something unique about him/her? Something that makes him/her stand out from the rest? Then here he/she goes!

Well, having too many awards would kinda decrease the difficulty value of getting an award. One of the reasons that boards like to do this is because it acts as a motivation of sorts for roleplayers to try and improve on themselves.

Having too may awards would make it a whole lot easier and thus a whole less motivating.

However, if you have any ideas for more awards, I guess you can post them up here too?

I will mention this on that staff board, but first I need to know a little more about it,
How long do people vote for it? and how long should it stay before voting starts again?

Well we had the Olympics which was pretty much the same thing apart from different awards and I was gonna do them again so yah we'll discuss it in the staff board

Well, most of the boards use a two-week period for people to vote.

And they held it seasonally, meaning every three months. Some however do it every six months. It depends on the board, and how high the activity is. It's entirely up to you, really. A smaller member base would suit better with six months, though.

If there were little members, and it happened every six months, the same people would be winning the award every single time. Kinda annoying, in a way.

Maybe four months for this board?

how would we take the votes, do you want members to message the member of staff with their votes, or open threads somewhere where you all say who you vote for.
Personally i would prefer PM a mod, as it doesn't take up lots of space with many threads, and its unbiased.

Well, it is up to them. If it was handled by me, I wouldn't mind if they posted their votes up. It is their choice then.

However, I would only count the votes that have been PMed to me.

And personally, it doesn't have to be a mod. Events like this can be member-initiated/handled.

We would have them PM because it then does make it un-biased and I would definitely want a member of staff to handle this. This should be coming in the next update
