Is there anyway to tell where Mercenary groups are based or what location they are currently in? Can just walk into any battle on anywhere on the map or do they have to constantly disclose there location to a moderator?

You can only control a base once you have capture it. Once u start a merc group you are basicly wandering China By yourself and your troops. You might be able to find a small village to capture, but do your research on the terrain of China so you dont end up capturing an imaginary village.

yes when you have a merc force you can join battles, though most people want money to do that as they are mercs.
you can also take over a region, but every region is owned by a force, and they mey object to you invading their land, that is if you take over the region.
