Zhang Jiao, a Taoist speaks out against the Han. Offering the people a new life and the blessings of his religion if they rise up and fight. Leading several successful sieges of cities himself with the support of the public. Zhang Jiao being the main leader was joined by his two younger brothers Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang, they were all "healers" and sought to seek a new world. The harshness and corruptness of the Han set them in motion to bring its downfall. Zhang Jiao himself was said to be a sorcerer, acclaiming himself to be the "Great Teacher" of the Way of peace. He wouldn't be the first of his class nor the last.
The weak, corrupt, sick foundations of the Han could only last for a little longer. Only indulgent in their own gain were completely overthrown when tens of thousand of people begun to uprise against them.
The Yellow Turban Rebellion usurps, throwing the Han into great dismay. The current circumstance of the country didn't help either. In great poverty, drought and debt the Han finds itself being flooded and overrun by the vast numbers and support from the Yellow Turbans almost immediately. Stronger areas protected by the Han are far more resistant. The rebels of this uprising are advised to wear Yellow Scarves upon their heads to show their support, though that is about all that is given. Only a few weapons and armours are given out by the Turbans and only a few handful generals being of any standard of war prepared.
All generals, governors and anyone known to be loyal to the Han is called to arms. Cao Mengde, a loyal servant of the Han, his own adoptive father being a close Eunuch to the Emperor. Liu Bei, a direct descendant of Liu Bang, the founder of the Han. Sun Jian, the leader of the Sun clan of Wu, a fierce and powerful warlord of the South. Yuan Shao, a man willing to finally extend his arms in the time of chaos and claim glory for his family. Dong Zhuo, a greedy tyrant who has been loyal to the Han this long finally grows tired of them, willing to only fulfil his own desires. Many others come, warriors of great, advisors of great intellect and strategists that would carve the world of war forever.
Victory against the people, would lead to more victories elsewhere.
"The Blue Sky (the Han Dynasty) has perished, the Yellow Sky (ie. the rebellion) will soon rise; in this year of Jia Zi, let there be prosperity in the world!"
Liu Bei finds himself, a shoemaker though his people require him to stand up and fight. He believes himself a weak man and must make a tough decision whether to stand back or to allow these rebels to take everything he has.
Cao Cao, a captain of Luo Yang currently. He will ride to war beside his cousin Xiahou Dun and put down any rabble that brings danger to his beloved city. For him, there is no obstacle that he won't overcome with ambition.
Sun Jian, the tiger of Jiang Dong. The man must choose whether to sit quietly in his lands or Wu, or to rise up and fight against these rebels - assisting the Han and ultimately defending China.
Yuan Shao and Dong Zhuo will find themselves in their own indulgences - though as their duty it is to fight for the Han. They will do it for their own accord.
