At the current time there are only two warring factions for control of China. The Han Dynasty and the yellow Turbans. Below are the troops that can be used for each side and the prices they are listed at as well as a brief description of them. As time moves on and new lords rise the troop market will be altered as well to keep pace with it.
Han Army Troops
Militia – 100 for 100 gold
The basic drafted peasant troop. Militia are hastily thrown together large companies of troops of mostly farmers and other commoners who have been drafted into service. They do have light armour and proper weapons they just don’t have a lot of training in using them. They do know how to do things still like marching in a straight line but they can’t do anything complicated and discipline is not high. Moral can plummet if things look bad. In large numbers they are not to be underestimated.
City watch – 100 for 150 gold
Almost like Police city watch have the job of keeping order in Han cites and smaller settlements. They wield a variety of weapons, bows, swords and spears. The more city watch in a settlement the better its city order will be. The down side is not having seen a lot of action they are less skilled with weapons than many troops although better than militia. They have basic military medium/light armour. Once bought they must start in a specified city and although they can be moved to a different city they cannot be used as an offensive unit. Max 2000 can be added to each city. (subject to change)
Han Swordsmen – 100 for 180 gold
The majority of the army’s of the imperial court are made up of Han swords and spearmen. They are a basic and very versatile troop type. With medium armour, a shield and a long Jian straight sword there men have an average level of skill. How each commander uses them will determine whether they see victory or defeat.
Han Spearmen – 100 for 180 gold
The majority of the army’s of the imperial court are made up of Han swords and spearmen. They are a basic and very versatile troop type. With medium armour and a long Qiong spear these men have an average level of skill. How each commander uses them will determine whether they see victory or defeat.
Han halberdiers – 100 for 200 gold
A new addition to the army’s of Han. Halberdiers wield long pole blades which are like axe’s mounted on a long pole. These men have medium armour as well and can be devastating if used correctly. They have no shield as like spearmen their weapons are two handed. There level of skill is equal to that of swordsmen or spearmen, the difference is in there weaponry and how they should be used.
Han Cavalry – 100 for 250 gold
Han cavalry regiments are drawn from the riders all over the plains of china. They are a standard cavalry unit with medium armour and a mix of spears and curved cavalry swords. They are of course very quick and as with all cavalry moral is always high they cannot wait to engage the enemy. This is their main downfall they have poor discipline and will sometimes charge without even being ordered in their haste to kill the enemy or refuse to retreat. Such occurrences are rare and can be restricted by a good commander.
Han Archers – 100 for 220 gold
Bowmen or Archers were comparatively rare in 3 kingdoms china compared to other infantry units. However they can be used to provide a deadly tactical advantage under the right circumstances. Archers are wear light padded armour and are equipped with a standard bow and quill of arrows. There range is up to 350 meters although they are less accurate the farther away the target. They can be used unlike crossbows to fire over targets although with reduced accuracy. They can fire between 4-6 times a minute given the skill of each man.
Han crossbowmen – 100 for 240 gold
The crossbow is individually perhaps a more deadly weapon than a bow. It has a much longer range at 500 meters and is more accurate as well. However it does have some down sides too. The crossbow fires slower at a maximum of 2 shots a minute due to a longer reload time. It cannot fire over troops or obstacles and in the rain they have to stop to unstring there crossbows. If they don’t do this they get wet which ruins the oiled string and reduces accuracy dramatically. Archers can unstring there bows quickly on the march.
Royal Guard – 100 for 350 gold
The most skilful of all men from other regiment are chosen to join the Royal guard. These men have the best heavy armour high grade weaponry and training of all troops in china. They are high disciplined and loyal and moral does not flag even when things are going badly. There weaponry is a square shield with a sword or spear. Each General is limited to 500 of these men they are primary a body guard unit.
Yellow Turban Rebel Troops
Peasants – 100 for 50 gold
Peasants troops for the bulk of the huge armies that the yellow turbans are so famous for. They are extremely cheap and good leaders can whip up huge host of them for nearly no cost. Their weapons are whatever they have on hand pick forks, wood cutter axes, old relics of swords used by there ancestors. Most of them have no armour at all to speak off. There have nearly no discipline and moral can flag easily, although a speech by their religious leaders can easily fire them up again. They have no idea what a formation is and are very unskilled. Once they take a city there main goal becomes looting and burning rather than fighting.
Hunters – 100 troops for 200 gold
Perhaps the only unit in the yellow turban army that can be considered as elite. There men used to be hunters who killed deer and other wild animals with their bows. They have now turned there attention to the yellow turban cause and serve as archers. They are more individual skilled than any Han archers and can fire faster as well. However they work as individuals not as a group of men. They are unable to volley fire affectively and work better on their own picking off individual enemies.
Marauders – 100 troops for 120 gold
Marauders form the backbone of the yellow turban armies. They are troops with proper weapons and armour. Mostly former bandits these men have medium armour and a mix of spears, swords and halberds. They can also work as a small units around there bandit leaders. There moral will fall very quickly however if there commander dies. They dont have the training of the Han army units.
Raider cavalry – 100 troops for 180 gold
Perhaps the most feared troops in the yellow turban army Raider cavalry ride ahead of their force causing chaos as they raid and pillage everything in sight. Armed with spears and swords there cavalry as not as well trained or as disciplined as Han cavalry but far more feared for their utterly ruthlessness. They are generally low in number with the poor yellow turbans limited by how many horses they can steal.
Fanatics – 100 for 220 gold
In every religion there are the masses that follow it but mostly out of fear or because it sounds good, they are not truly devoted. Then there are the few true believers that will lay down their lives for their cause. The Fanatics are the truly devoted men of Zhang Jiao. Moral is never a problem they will fight to the death and even when mortally wounded try and drag there enemy down with them. You don’t want to turn your back on them until they are dead and in several pieces on the ground. They have the same armour and equipment as Marauders although slightly better skill. There real edge is in ferocity and determination.
