Name: Asa Khan
Age: 34
Birthplace: Herat, Kushan Empire
Appearance: Asa stands averagely built at 5’8” with shoulder-length black hair, blending in with his heavily tanned skin. Through the many conflicts he has caused over the years, he has sustained a deep wound to his left shoulder which he ensures is always heavily armoured. These fights have also contributed to a lithe, well-muscled body, though it is not recognizable beneath his regular attire. Like most people of his race, his eyes are shaded emerald green.
Personallity: By default, Asa is a kind person, though he frequently foregoes this disposition to a crueler one in which he has been known to brutalize those who cross him… brutally. The system of law practiced by many of those he has encountered has always seemed unsatisfactory, and instead uses his own judicial system. In other words: he is the law. He often loses control of his emotions, forcing strict and severe punishments to his soldiers. This penchant has driven away many undisciplined followers, leaving only elite warriors in his cohort. He disdains the attempted influence of any other over his troops as he feels that they have pledged their service to him alone. While a stubborn commander, he has a more compassionate side which often governs his decisions more than his desire for victory, meaning he will often suffer rather than allow others to. Asa’s most notable trait is his protectiveness, coupled with his nobility. In the past he has vowed to protect a number of people, personally and professionally, which accounts for his protectiveness. No matter how noble he may come across, he is a professional killer who, over a decade of work, now revels in the suffering of his enemies and the fervor of battle. He is never subtle in the elimination of a threat, unless absolutely necessary; this extends to his appearances in public, in which he always ensures that his weapons are clearly visible. Overall, he does whatever he can to better the world in his own way, and is always acceptive of anyone who would aid him in accomplishing his goal, provided they obey him.
Weapon: Asa uses a scimitar with one serrated edge. He carries a wide array of small blades and tools due to his interest and engagement in amateur surgery, though this fascination has been met with limited success.
Weapon Strengths: Due to the teeth on the blade, a powerful blow may cut through bronze, iron or even steel if it is cut properly.
Weapon Weaknesses: The blade may become lodged in metal armour if a blow is not powerful enough to tear through or is too short.
Armour: Most notable is the steel pauldron which covers his left shoulder, which contrasts with the leather spaulder on his right. His raiment consists of a thick robe, covered by a lamellar cuirass, along with bracers, boots and greaves of the same material. He wears gloves made of studded leather and a simple steel helmet which incorporates a veil and a cloth drape to cover his neck. His main method of protection comes from a steel tower shield he carries. Though slightly hindering his offensive capabilities, the defense provided more than makes up for it, in his past experiences at least. The armour is very light, which allows him to fight for longer than those who clad themselves in heavier materials.
History: In his early life, Asa often travelled with his parents in a merchant caravan which visited various towns throughout their homeland before seeking profit elsewhere. These years were fairly uneventful, so after 17 years of wanderlust building up he abandoned the caravan and left, seeking out more exciting adventures as a sellsword. Years later, he acquired leadership of a group of mercenaries over whom he exercised a strict dominion. The group became infamous for the unpredictable attitude’; sometimes protecting villages from raiders and sometimes taking on the reverse role. All of this was due to the beliefs and strange justice of their leader, whose justification for the group’s actions eventually led to a gap forming in the force.
In a bloody confrontation, many of those loyal to Asa were slain; those who were left were maimed and quickly took flight for fear of encountering the remnants of their adversaries. Asa was among those who fled, though his defeat left the victor with scars that would last a lifetime. The peasants of the nearby villages refused to assist him in any way due to his reputation as a leader of a then fragmented gang, often resulting in a few badly beaten commoners, though ultimately driving away the supposed menace.
Having been driven away from his residence, he returned to Herat and sought training in order to prevent another uprising in his followers. He spent several years training in the way of the sword, learning to fight in the most efficient way possible, until his trainer passed away due to a heart attack. Another 5 years were spent in the city honing his sword skills and teaching peasants how to fight, for a fee of course, before heading off to seek out a new life where his reputation would not play a part in his treatment.
Through a month of travel, Asa eventually arrived in China where knowledge of him was virtually non-existent. When he arrived, he spent several years surveying the chaotic land before taking sides. Due to his dislike of authority, he decided to offer his services to whatever raiders, pirates or assorted mercenaries would have him, in the hope that they would be less strict in their administration. He does, however, possess a strong loathing for the Yellow Turban rebels and their ideals.
