The Yellow Turbans scrambled to get prepared for battle. The hunters were already firing at the enemy with some shots hitting whenever they caught the correct gust of wind to carry the arrow further into the side of an unsuspecting victim though the enemy was still not in full range for the full blow from the hunter archers.
The North gate swung open and half the Raider Cavalry rode out to ram into the front lines of Yuan Shao's army. They rode as hard and fast as they could to build momentum to hammer the front lines and to do damage. The second half held back and prepared for their turn when the time comes.
The other Yellow Turban troops remained in their original positions and decided not to leave the city quite yet. The Yellow Turbans still had tricks up their sleeves but it depended upon the timing for the best moment to unleash their plans.

Soon enough, Hayate was addressed by the nobleman and blinked a little at how he had been singled out amongst the rest. Regardless, he nodded. "Understood." and with that, he lead the group of 200 people carefully to their destination. With relative ease, they took positions to cover themselves from enemy view, the corn fields providing the perfect cover.
'Sir, are you sure this will work?' one of the calvary soldiers questioned, feeling more secure about being skeptical with a randomly proclaimed leader than master Yuan Shao. Hayate merely smirked softly. "Well, if it doesn't, everything should work out regardless...even if it is in the next existence." he commented and signaled them to be silent and waited for the opportune moment.
This was the first battle the man participated in, yet he was giving the impression he was an expert already. He knew exactly what to say, as most of it had to be optimistic like he heard from Master Yuan Shao. He also knew he had nothing to lose except his dignity, so he had that in his favor.

Cao Cao watched as the battle slowly unfolded before him. His troops returned to a standard position and awaited their orders when the north gate was swung open and the raider cavalry charged. There were only two hundred, and Cao Cao gazed at the sight as he readied his own royal guards to intercept their flank. It would be an easy task – especially when led by Cao Cao himself!
He took direct command of the royal guard, and waited for the enemy raiders to draw closer to his friend’s camp and military array. They would be ready no doubt, and Cao Cao sighed at the impudence of his enemies. Cavalry charging a stationed army was always bad news, and he whistled slowly as the enemy drew closer.
Then he acted.
He pushed his steed forward and ordered his men to stay in a tight formation around him. They moved like a perfect sphere, ready to intercept and ready to kill. The enemy raiders used no penetrating formation – it was but a charge, a simple one at that and as the raiders went in for the last leap of faith Cao Cao’s army struck, the guards swarming one of the flanks and cutting down horses for more horses to buckle and trip over. It would be simple – but his intervention would certainly push Yuan Shao’s men into action, and with the cavalry’s momentum altered he felt the enemy would fall quickly.
The raiders crashed into the ranks of Yuan’s army, and then his own army gave support by digging closer into the flank, forcing the horsemen to stand and fight by restricting their movement. They were fools – these turbans, and if they kept attacking as they did he would not expect this fight to last much longer.

Yuan Shao and his army split into two with his cavalry going to Hayate. The main army continued to more forward whilst the cavalry moved to their position. After moving towards Pu Yang they had come under fire from archers mounted on the walls, Yuan Shao took a few loses but then the north gate swung open and they were charged by the Yellow Turbans Hunter cavalry. Luckily for Shao his spearmen were in the front line and in the phalanx formation. A cavalry charge into a phalanx formation was pretty much suicidal. Yuan Shao gave the orders for the archers to fire at the on coming cavalry.
"Spearmen stand strong! As soon as they hit Halberds move to their right flank, Swordsmen to the left. If we box them in they are done for. Archers don't stop firing! My Royal Guards move into a box formation around me."
The Hunters hit the spearmen thunderously but they held their ground dealing great damage to the Hunters, very swiftly the swordsmen and the halberds got into position onto the cavalry's flank nearly completely boxing them in. The only way to get out was to retreat back.
"Men, we have them where we want them, Spearmen push on. Drive the scum back." Yuan Shao shouted orders at his men from within his box.

The hunter archers used the wall as protection as they fired relentlessly at the on-coming Han Forces. The North gate was shut immediately to give the troops a fighting chance against the on-slaught. The archers did their best to unleash a black cloud of arrows and they used their skills to pick out individual soldiers in the armies below.
The Raider cavalry that had collided against Yuan Shao's forces were struck heavily with losses but the tumbling horses managed to take out some of the enemy troops whilst the remaining sixty cavalry of the original two hundred turned around and started to flee back towards the city.
The field to the East suddenly showed some movement but the crops are too high to see what exactly lurks within it.

After some time of waiting, Hayate watched as the yellow turban soldiers poured out of their base. He allowed the initial wave to go, as he doubted it would make for much of an ambush on the first set of soldiers. He did, however, keep an eye on the gates as he waited for the second group. He wasn't that skilled in combat, but it was logical to allow 'cannon-fodder' to rush out first, and the main forces to come as backup. Thus, it made sense to wait for the main forces to ambush.

Cao Cao watched as the raider cavalry buckled beneath his strength before they too turned and fled the scene. The movement disturbed the enemy, and he beckoned for his archers to fire up now that they had neared the city. He had expected losses, but Yuan Shao, for whatever reason had stood as the thorn to the turbans, and his forces had slipped through their advantage point before returning their bombardment of fire.
Some archers fired at the retreating cavalry, but the majority of them showered arrow to the walls – backed by Yuan Shao and whoever else had arrived to offer their support. It would be a grand victory; sadly, it’d be a victory that they would all suffer greatly for.
“Now!”
He turned again, and his royal infantry jumped the lines, running forwards. Their shields and swords protected their bodies from arrows and the spearmen and archers hid behind the great shield wall before pushing back and releasing. They did not need to aim as such, only hurl the arrow in the direction of the walls – the momentum, weight and the fall would do the rest.
“Face me you damn turbans – do sheep always hide behind the walls of Sheppard’s or do they face men like tigers and lions.”
Cao Cao roared his anger, though to no apparent use. He was fighting cowards and that would make the battle even harder to achieve victory from.
[[You will have to engage us at some point, or force us to lose. Siege equipment wasn’t made available and so we have no real means to get through the city defences….]]

Yuan Shao sat back and watched as the on coming cavalry smashed into his box formation, they suffered great losses and began to retreat back to the city. " Fire on the retreating men." Yuan Shao shouted from above his horse as he watched the fleeing men fall off of their horses. "Men, archers next." He said to his archer. He rode out to the footsoliders to speak to them. "Men get into shield wall formation and postion yourselves behind Cao Cao troops, let him take the more losses." He gave the orders to his men and retreated back a safe distance. He told a messanger to tell his cavalry unit to regroup with the man army. After he had finished speaking Cao Cao marched forward up to the gate and shouted at the rebles although he could not hear what was said.

The Yellow Turbans moved about in the city and soon the Hunters upon the walls disappear from view and stopped firing. Everything goes silent within the city and no movement can be noticed. The North gate creaks open a little and no longer is there anything to hold it firmly shut. The gate could easily be pushed open. Inside the city there was not a soul to be seen.
Out at the cornfield the movement becomes greater and soon a horde of troops erupt from the hiding spot and charge towards the Han armies. They scream and shout whilst throwing rocks and sticks at the larger forces as they charge towards Cao Cao, Yuan Shao and Hayate Seirei.

Part 1: The road to battle
Dust twirled in the wind as the army of Cheng Mao rode across the plains to Pu Yang. After their previous battle near Nan Pi, their numbers had been increased twofold. Now following the red banner with the black horse were:
240 Han Cavalry 120 Han Halberdiers 100 Han Swordsmen 160 Han Archers
The besieged city could be seen clearly as they rode toward it. A scout had just returned confirming that Cao Cao and Yuan Shao were both fighting the yellow turbans, and that another force under the banner of Liu Bei was fast approaching. Mao looked at the city again, now seeing soldiers at the gates, small as ants from their current distance. Some of the horsemen behind Mao were talking excitedly. Words like: "glorious battle" could be heard. Er Ren, Mao's new captain, turned in his saddle and glanced an angry look at the men before he said: "Battles aren't glorious! People die, remember!" Mao nodded approvingly, but noticeably. The men were silent for a moment, and then replied with a simultaneous: "Yes, bearcleaver...".. Ren's nickname had spread among the troops like wildfire, which did wonders for his popularity. Ren looked at Mao. "Don't we have a city to free?" "Yes, let us ride. " Mao said, ordering the banner-carriers to raise the flags. "And so the sky turns crimson yet again. " he whispered.
Part 2: Arrival at Pu Yang
Strong the city's walls stood, a huge barrier of stone. Mao had expected to see archers on top of them, using the advantage in battle. But none were to be seen. Things were calm inside the gates, too calm. They rode on, staying well away from the walls, heading for the blue and yellow banners of Cao Cao and Yuan Shao. Then another army came riding upon the field of battle. It was carrying the green banners of Liu Bei. Mao and his troops rode toward the closest of the besieging troops, which were those of Yuan Shao. Before they had even reached them, a large group of soldiers ambushed the Han forces on the other side of the field. "Take the cavalry, ride around to the forest, and then crush them from the back and flanks! I will head for the gate! " Mao ordered Er Ren. "You heard him! This way!" Ren shouted, and the cavalry departed.
Moments later, Cheng Mao and the remaining soldiers reached the ranks of Yuan Shao. There, on top of his black horse, Cheng Mao shouted: "We have come to aid in the siege of Pu Yang! I am Cheng Mao, where are lord Yuan Shao and lord Cao Cao?"

Having just prepared to start the ambush on the yellow turbans, Hayate flinched once he heard the roars and cheers of the ambush unit the Yellow Turbans had sent. "You can't be serious!" he cursed in annoyance and changed pace. "You, lead 99 of the troops and continue the ambush Master Yuan Shao sent us for. The rest of us will handle these idiots." he ordered and the group divided itself, half heading for their intended mission, the other half including Hayate attacking the ambush unit to assist Cao Cao and Yuan Shao.

The Yellow Turban horde rammed into the main Han armies. Bodies fell to the ground and death filled the air but the brain-washed people continued to lash out taking a number of the Han soldiers with them to the after life. One of the men called out and soon enough life appeared within the city as the main Yellow Turban army poured out to deliver a blow to the front of the Han army wave.
Chaos reigned as the soldiers clashed and swirled in a blood-thirsty combat that meant life or death.
