(Taking place before Sha Kuang and Co. have gone to Xin Ye)
A war summer's day, it seemed to be the right time to do a walkabout of the perimeter of walls. Sha Kuang woke up early and had disguised himself, not wanting to be recognized. Someone such as him would not be well liked to examine the city walls, but then he wasn't doing this for any thievery work but rather to improve the city.
He had made a number of friends in Luo Yang who could help him in this task. But first he'd have to see what would need to be fixed. So he slowly made his way about, looking at all the nooks in the wall. Clearly the city was decadent. It could indeed pass as a palace, and a richly adorned capital city... But it's defenses were not as good as they could be. In a period of war like this, it was definitely not a good thing. It took Kuang the better part of a day to cover the entire city. Thankfully the walls were quite thick, but the gates were too richly adorned to be of any use; a ram could bust through them easily. New ones that were stronger and reinforced with studs would have to be made. Overall it was not entirely bad, but it would just take quite a bit of manpower to get these things built quickly.
So after doing this, Sha Kuang quickly made his way to his residence, where he did notes and mapped a rough sketch of the city. Timber and iron would need to be procured, and he'd also have to enlist the help of some of his influential friends. He also pondered what else would need to be done; water supply in the city, food storage, places inside the city that could be blocked off in case the walls were breached, and extra weapons that would be placed in storage so that a militia could be called upon as well.
Definitely a big job, but Sha Kuang was up to the task. He would get started on the other stuff on the morrow. Dimming the single taper that served as a light source, he made his way to his bedroom where his wife was already asleep. In the other room, Lu Shi would probably still be awake, reading or composing some verses or something. Kuang just laughed it off and eased into the bed, he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
