Name: Ma Dai
Age: 19
Residence:
Appearance:
Ma Dai stands at a height of 5'11", just about over the average. Even his build isn't too much of an impressive feature, though he is of course quite firm, nothing near slender but not even close to being a chunk of fat. His complexion of a more tanned tone, the shape of his face narrowing rapidly down toward the bottom. His pitch black hair is cut to a moderate length that reached down to the back of his neck, with long dark eyebrows and a clean-shaven mouth. Any other facial features might be described as unscarred and flawless.
Personality: In comparison to his close cousin Ma Chao, Ma Dai is more of a calm, well thought-out character. Of course, the two share one thing in common: the hate for Cao Cao for the downfall of their clan. However, unlike his companion, Ma Dai tends not to let his emotions get the better of him, and instead proves in many situations that his cooled brain is the better means for a wise decision at all times. Although he does not consider himself the best of warriors, Ma Dai does keep pride that the head will eventually prevail over simple muscular might.
Weapon: Blade of Xi Liang
The Blade of Xi Liang is Ma Dai¡¯s sword. In fact, it is a simple double-bladed jian with a name. The grey hilt is wrapped majorly in a long strip of cloth, made fit for Ma Dai to grip it more comfortably. Any other decorations? Not really.
Weapon Strengths: The sword is a very light and agile weapon, easy to use and quite swift to maneuver. As well, close quartered combat is its natural specialty, with its more closer range. Although it might lack power compared to some larger weapons, its speed makes up for it quite a lot.
Weapon Weaknesses: The sword is, however, at the same time very short-ranged. In other words, when met with a longer ranged weapon like a polearm, it is naturally at a disadvantage from the start, though it is never impossible to counter.
Armour: Ma Dai dons very simple plate armor, consisting only of shoulder and thigh plates and a breast plate that is quite obviously split into a triangular shape about halfway through. This makes his chest quite vulnerable to attack, but he finds that agility is the better way over having to endure direct hits. A green cape, the color which he chose upon his decision to join Liu Bei, is tied up front and hung down back. Instead of wearing a helmet, Ma Dai prefers to have a large round turban of sorts, more like a simple headpiece, the outer rim shaded in with darker material and any excess cloth hanging down from the rear. Of course, like any other common helmet, there is the bundle of golden thread ornamenting the simply designed headpiece.
History: Ma Dai was born in 170 AD in Xi Liang as the nephew of Ma Teng and cousin to Ma Chao. Much like the latter, Ma Dai was well-versed in battle tactics and combat, and was an extremely able field commander in battle. However, due to his younger age, he was not able to participate in battle as actively as his cousin, who was but a few years older than him, did and showed his might in such occasions. Later, when Ma Teng moved away from Xi Liang upon order of the Han imperial court, Ma Dai decided to follow behind sometime later in order to protect the older man.
This attempt proved to be vain, as Ma Dai had not even reached his uncle when a small squad of soldiers, from Ma Teng's own army, met up with him during a rush to flee from the city. Questioning them on why they were in such a rush to run, he was informed of the great massacre that had occurred because of Cao Cao, in which many of his clansmen and their armies were slain; Ma Teng's fate remained unknown. Seeing as he was not safe himself in such a place, Ma Dai disguised himself as a traveling merchant and made his way back to Xi Liang, where he snuck into the camp at the dead of night.
Meeting with Ma Chao, Ma Dai told his cousin of what had happened, and the two immediately contacted Ma Teng's sworn brother, Han Sui, along with several other previous local allies, in an attempt to take revenge on Cao Cao. However, this also proved to be futile, as Cao Cao had devised a ploy to split Ma Chao and Han Sui up. Successful, the armies ripped apart, and Ma Chao, along with Ma Dai, went back west to occupy Longxi and Jicheng. However, another ploy, this time made by some of Ma Chao's conquered subordinates, had succeeded again, and the two Ma's were locked out of their own city of Jicheng while on their way to quell a group of local bandits.
With nowhere to run, Ma Dai followed Ma Chao as the two went to Liu Bei to offer all that they had, including their servitude, to the well-known and respected man.
