Name: Wei Yan (Wenchang)
Age: 23 (born 169)
Residence:
Appearance:
Wei Yan stands at the height of 6'1", taller than the majority of the people and the peasants but certainly not a goliath among men. He has an extremely muscular build, very strong and quite bulky, in fact. He has a very tanned tone of his complexion, many scars donned upon it over the majority of his body from his personal preference of lacking armor, which in turn causes more injuries that last longer. His face, however, is covered by an ivory mask, white but colored over with a mix of red and green in some places, the lower rim adorned with spikes. Only the eyes seen through and the mouth uncovered are visible as flesh. His hair is pitch black, grown long and braided into many braids.
Personality: The most notable characteristic in Wei Yan is his inability to speak properly. He is only able to grunt the most simple of words into phrases. This is, however, not simple impairment. Originating from a completely different group of tribes, the language he had spoken for twenty years has been quite the contrast from what he is obliged to learn now. Although he understands the majority of information he receives, the ability to send back a message through this tongue is quite difficult for him. Wei Yan has never been quite loyal to a certain liege, choosing to follow his own ways. However, if he finds someone of worth, of power, and as long as he can maintain that power, Wei Yan will remain in service with his utmost. However, he isn't the brightest figure in the army and may neglect to consider the consequences of his sometimes rash behavior, oftentimes leading to misunderstandings and distrust. But although he may look like an imbecilic barbarian and sound like it as well, Wei Yan can also be a generous man at times.
Weapon: Comet Strike
Comet Strike is a double voulge of Wei Yan's preferences. A voulge is attached to either side of the long wooden shaft, making it a variation of a polearm. Each voulge is a large curved blade, sharpened on one edge and consisting of three sharp spikes on the other, the same model cloned on both ends. Wei Yan has refused to adorn his weapon any further than it already is, and his lack of care for such matters as even led to his blades being stained with blood, old and new.
Weapon Strengths: Each voulge of Comet Strike has a large blade used for swift, effective cutting, while the other end of the voulge, including the very point of the blade, can be used for stabbing and impaling, like a spear. As there are two of these voulges, the weapon can be used from either end, and in the hands of an experienced, swift warrior of the weapon such as Wei Yan, it will show much more effectiveness.
Weapon Weaknesses: The double voulge is, however, a polearm, and no matter how swift the wielder is, it still carries some weight. As well, although it can strike with both ends, it is at a disadvantage at an extremely close-ranged series of combat, especially against those weapons suitable for such an occasions, for example, a sword.
Armor: Wei Yan's armor consists of very less protection, made up of a chest piece, lower body protection, and arm guards. The green chest piece is the only actual "armor" of his attire, filled in with what thin layer of iron that he could afford and covered over with leather. It is worn in a vest-like way, covering both front and back, though the back part is simple leather. The lower rim of the chest piece ends right below the chest, and is adorned with ivory spikes. Two shoulder pads are added onto the chest piece, the left pad made of fur-rimmed leather and the right of iron. The lower portion of his set of clothing is a set of three thin layers of green, ragged, skirt-like cloth, fastened at the waist by a red and slightly gold-trimmed belt. His two short arm guards are made of hard green leather, the left supported only by a gold cover and the right with a series of iron spikes winding around it. While his feet are protected by leather field boots, the rest of his body, in other words the upper part of the arms, legs, and a portion of his abdomen are left bare.
History: Wei Yan, styled Wenchang, was born in the year 169 to an unnamed tribe of the far west, a culture in large contrast to the Han empire, quite barbaric in comparison, in fact. Wenchang was a tribal warrior of the clan, and quite a talented, renown one at that as well, both for his valor as well as his courage. With his fame, he grew to collect more and more personal followers, each man a warrior of his own skill. With what unorganized and undisciplined militia of morale that he had, Wenchang one day decided to form his own army and have his own share of power in the tribe.
This plan did fail, however, with every man of his army either being caught up in a large massacre to follow as a battle, or escaping with their lives. Routed and abandoned to die alone, Wei Yan immediately took to his horse and ran, east as far as he could, before he reached the lands of the Han and the mainlands of China. A land that he had neither heard of or could communicate in. A completely different society, yet over the half decade that he resided there, Wenchang was able to pick up the majority of the language; still at a lack of speech, but a capability to understand most nonetheless.
Without lord or land, Wei Yan still wanders the land.
