A couple hundred men trudged through the snow marching in a box shaped rotation. Their Commander watched from afar cold and very bored. For days he had been conducting hundreds of men on how to March in a straight line together. Not only that but he watched them spar with each other and that was while he wasn't teaching another group of men about formations. Ryu sighed because it was a long two weeks and after today he would be done with this crap and move along to Luo Yang.
DAY 1
Ryu stared at the field covered in snow. It was so large, so empty, so lifeless, and so large. A perfect place to begin training for a large amount of people. He wondered how the hell was he supposed to turn so many country folk into soldiers in the short amount of time he was given. Ryu had only 3 problems to deal with. 1. He was lazy why the hell would he want to do this? 2. How could he train so many people at once? 3. How was he to accomplish this in 2 weeks time. He knew that these three problems were the first three obstacles he had to defeat before he could start anything. With that Ryu turned around and headed back to camp to get a good night rest and to ponder.
DAY 2
"I've got it!"
Ryu said with excitement as he opened his eyes sat up from his sleeping mat in his tent. The idea came to him how to solve the second question. He was going to split the training into 3 stations where three groups of troops will train throughout the field 200 men in each group. The first group would deal with Marching together in a straight line and to keep it from taking up too much space they will March in a box rotation. The second group will sparr with a group of Marauders to gain some fighting experience. After the second station they will get some rest by learning formations and then having to practice those formations during this time they will be treated to a cold meal.
Wandering around camp Ryu thought of the time scales they will have. Four hours at each Station should be good. Two of those hours would be at the Formations Station eating, resting and learning and the other two would be carrying out those formations. It would take at least 2 days to have the Peasants learn the basics. What days are left over can be used to further train them and see how far they have come. But the basics was all he really needed from them. Ryu walked over to a Sergeant and gave him the order.
"All right Peasant Infantry! Form up into groups of One Hundred! And make it fast!"
Ryu watched in shame because there was either two things one could take from a sight like this. Either they will be shamed of the people or one would laugh like he was watching a comic. It was horrible men scrambled, ran in random directions, tripped over each other and when they were done the lines weren't even straight. Ryu put his hand on his forehead and shook it in disgrace.
"Alright you shameful bunch! You are here today to begin your training to become actual soldiers or at least Militia men! I do not want to hear complaints! Just shut up and listen! Your groups will be inspected and the worst 600 will be the first group to begin a rigorous training in the cold! If you're picked I expect you to meet at the field tomorrow morning early! If you do not show up then I will make your group work the whole day and I doubt they will be too happy with you! Sergeants! Begin the inspection!"
It took an hour to pick out 600 out of 2,000 but at least he could begin with the training. Ryu looked at the men he shook his head and sighed. "This is going to be a long 2 weeks."
DAY 3
Ryu's eye twitched as he saw the end result of the Marching station. His face reddened and his body tensed. Turning around slowly he began to open his mouth.
"WHAT KIND OF A FUCKING SQUARE IS THAT!" Ryu said as he pointed at the tracks on the ground. "DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT A SQUARE IS! YOU DIDN'T EVEN END UP BACK WHERE YOU STARTED!" Yelling at the top of his lungs Ryu stomped around and made a square. "THIS TIME MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THAT! NOW GET MARCHING BEFORE I MAKE A SQUARE OUT OF YOUR CORPSES!" Ryu yelled at them even harder right before sending them off to correct themselves. Ryu wondered how stupid people can be. He thought they would at least be able to make a square with their tracks.
5 minutes later Ryu calmed down as he stared at the group again. He took a look at their tracks and nodded in approval it at least looked like a square with a few mistakes. "Alright now I will teach you how to March! First you need to raise your knees when you March!" Ryu started demonstrating for them how to do so. "Next you keep your back straight! Now try it yourselves!" Ryu stopped demonstrating as they walked off to try Marching properly.
Ryu wiped the sweat from his hair when he saw the Marching they did. All they were doing was stepping on each other's heels. Seeing themselves failing they came back. "Ok I see your having some trouble! You must match your speed and all of you must find the same pace! Only then you will be able to March together in an orderly fashion! Now I want you all to practice for the rest of the time you have!" Ryu turned with his back facing the men and left for the next station.
DAY 4
"Come on you Spineless Women! You did better yesterday when you were getting your asses kicked in!"
Peasants groaned because they were constantly being outclassed by their Marauder brethren. But they knew they were doing better than yesterday. At least now they had a chance to stand up against their brothers in arms. But they were still quite aways from being an experienced fighting force. They had some grip on the basics of handling a weapon. They still had a few more hours ago til they were finished.
"Marauders! Switch sparring partners! They won't be fighting the same opponent on the battlefield!"
Ryu observed carefully, walking up and down the row of dueling men. He realized that they were having trouble parrying their opponent's attacks. It's easy to attack but it's hard to defend. "Everyone cease your fighting and gather around!" Ryu waited for them to form a circle around him before speaking. "Peasants and Marauders! This advice goes to the both of you! When defending your opponent's attack the first thing you must do is to pay attention to your enemy's movements. Because if you can read them not only can you block them. You can parry, dodge, perform a counterattack, you can even turn their attacks against them. I want you all to try it. Take turns attacking one another until you get a hang of it. Now go!" Ryu stretched out his arms and yawned he should let a Training Sergeant take over. "Sergeant! Take over." Tomorrow another group was to train and he needed to get some rest.
DAY 5
Ryu leaned back on a tree and watched the next batch of troops do their work. They were a tad bit better than the last group but that doesn't mean they will get any better treatment. Even if Ryu had to stomp on their heads to make them grow some balls he'll have them trained by the end of next week. If he went into a real battle with these pansy's it'll be a massacre for his own side. Ryu was not about to let that happen or else he would be killed along with them. And being killed is not exactly what Ryu had in mind for himself.
DAYS 6 - 10
Things went smoothly with a few exceptions and all 2,000 Peasants were taught how to March, how to fight, and how to follow basic formations. They were left with 4 groups total the first 600 on Days 3 and 4. The next 600 on 5 and 6. A third 600 on 7 and 8. And 200 on 9 and 10. All that was left to do was to make some final assessments in the next 4 days.
DAYS 11 - 14
During the last four days Ryu saw the fruit that bore from his training. Yeah sure certainly not the best but at least they could stand a chance when fighting against a trained and fully equipped Coalition army.
DAY 15
Ryu stretched out his arms from his mat and shivered from the cold. He was glad they finished before it got this cold or else a lot more people would have gotten sick. It was time to head for Luo Yang in full force. But before that he needed to go find some new weapons to equip his force with.
(( I was going to make it longer and even more detailed but I don't think people would like to read the samething happening with a few differences and something funny to try and make it less boring.
Anyway I would like to know what troops can these Peasants be turned into after this training and how much would it cost if it costs anything. ))
