(May I ask that whatever Mod reads this, please give me any suggestions on how to make it better, as so far, this is the best I have done - I think lol, but just saying if you could suggest anything, please do)
”Reflection and Orders”
Sun Jian was born in Fu Chun in the lands of Wu and now after his participation in the crushing of the Yellow Turbans was now Governor of Wu. His home would be the root, but it would soon be time where branches need to come out or the strong tree of Wu will not grow. The Sun family were indeed strong, especially in the times of Sun Tzu, and now it was time for the Sun family to become strong once again and unite the war torn land since it was all falling apart, which can only be done through expansion but first it is essential to build a strong foundation for the Kingdom at its heart, which is why he had held a council with the officials, who he had chosen throughout the lands of Wu to help take care of the other villages.
“I call this meeting so that you may report the condition of your respectable villages and inform me of what is currently happening and let me know of any concerns you have.”, Sun Jian announced as he stood infront of his chair, before taking a seat to listen to the officials.
The Officials all lined up infront to feedback to Lord Sun. The first official stepped forward and bowed, “Lord Sun, your city prospers and thanks to your bravery at Lu Jiang, Jiangdong is safe so we have no problem with moral, though I do recommend that you send one of your officers or allow us with your decree, to recruit some volunteers. Though they not be powerful as your grand army, all volunteers fight for what they believe and can be trained, and they believe in Wu and you”.
Sun Jian smiled, “That is good to hear”, he paused wondering whether to assign an officer or send out the officials. If moral was high throughout Wu, there would be no need to send officers as they will be needed elsewhere, “Very well, you all have my permission to recruit as many volunteers that want to join, even those that are considered outcast. It is what is inside us which makes us strong”. He would of gave them their orders but decided aganst as there could be more orders that he may need to assign.
A second official stepped forward and bowed, once the first official returned to his place, “Lord Sun, as you have heard the morale is high throughtout Wu, so the Order is high, so there has been no enemy threats to attack any of our cities and villages, so you need not worry”.
Then another official stepped forward and bowed, “I am afraid I will have to intervene here as there is a matter that I must mention”.
Sun Jian smiled as he heard of no attacks but when another reported in response, he had to listen, so he nodded to the second official who returned to his place, then turned his attention to the other official to hear what he has to say, “Then you must let me know what is bothering you”.
“Moral is high. Order is high. No matter what you do to protect the land, there is always going to be trouble. We have Bandits, Pirates and the Shanyue tribe which have been pillaging cities down South, aswell as in Huiji. As I understand you have formed an Alliance with the Pirate called Rui Takiri who dwells in Huiji, and though the corrupt Wang Lang is out of the picture, the Shanyue have made quick movements throughout the south of Jiangdong, causing problems for us, Takiri and the county of Chai Sang. The Pirates, not afflliated with Takiri, have also begun to rule the sea, so we must make relations with these Pirates also. We have only allied with just a small portion of the Pirates but we need to show them, that the Tiger of Jiangdong has supremacy. Last of all, we have the Bandits. Though they are not attacking cities due to the high morale and order, we have had supplies stolen which we presume are by Bandits”, he turned to the other two officials who had already spoken, “I am unsure if all cities are affected or if the Bandits or whoever is doing this, are using different methods, maybe allowing the supplies to pass through with fewer supplies”, before returning his attention back to Lord Sun, “but the matter of the fact is, we are losing supplies, therefore losing money, our resources will be drained if we do not act”.
Sun Jian put his fist down, then calmed down and turned to the officials, “Thank you for your advice and your reports. I shall act upon this immediately”, then turned to the scrolls with the orders he had written while the official was speaking and gave one to each official, “These are your orders concerning recruitment. Order the volunteers, that they are to report to the Barracks for training”.
The officials bowed then left single-file outside the Palace. Seems this would be damaging to Wu, and who knows, it could also be happening throughout Jiangdong. Whoever is behind this would pay.
”Taking Action”
After hearing the news of the supplies, Sun Jian was determined to fix the supply line immediately, and to destroy the Leader which was in control of this. They would soon regret to steal from the land owned by the Tiger of Jiangdong.
Sun Jian stood infront of his army, and roared, “There is a saying, that Patience is a virtue, but sometimes, patience is costly. You have fought in a few campaigns of mine, the Yellow Turbans more importantly, and soon, we shall branch out to other lands. However, we cannot do anything if our home of Wu is in danger from supposedly Bandits stealing supplies. The supplies are being stolen, our food, our gold, and even though we are unsure if it is Bandits, we must mend the supply line and keep Wu running. If successful, they will not try an stunt like this again. I have ordered all city troops to keep a higher security on incoming supplies, with a few guards, to show we have taken noticed. Though they may act as a bait, we shall lie in wait to thrawt their plan. Wei Huan shall lead troops to the South and I myself shall personally go North. We march out soon, so I want everyone prepared”.
The soldiers bowed, then rushed to their divisions that they had been assigned to. Wei Huan charged up to Sun Jian, “Take care Lord Sun. My unit shall return in victory, and so shall yours”, as he turned away and rushed to the front of his unit, “Time to go! You are under the command of Wei Huan. Take heed to my instructions and we will not face any trouble. Let’s move!”
Sun Jian smiled as he saw Wei Huan leave, and now it was his time, “Troops move out! Time to put fear in their hearts for damaging our supply line. Nobody will dare oppose the Tiger of Jiangdong. Let’s go!”
”Preparations”
So this was why Wu was receiving low income, but now it was time to re-claim his lost income, as his troops follow the supply train quietly in the forest ready to ambush them.
Sun Jian took his position to the right leaving half of his unit on the left. Before dividing, he gave strict instructions that they are only to move where he tells them and that they must keep quiet at all costs all the plan would fail. The best opportunity to strike would be when the supply merchant would take a break, and his few guards would form a ring around it, which shows the enemy their weak formation already and would want to attack. Only problem was, while Sun Jian was doing his part of the plan, there was not a commander to take command of the special unit. Though they was already preparing, a commander was needed, and he couldn’t be at two places at once.
All of a sudden, he heard a horse rushing towards them, Sun Jian grabbed his sword, and while hiding behind a tree, waited till the horse came close enough for him to strike, but he was unable to since the horserider’s sword clashed with his. Sun Jian looked up then noticed it was his younger brother, Sun Jing, who then smiled and said quietly, “You remember the days where we used to play in the forest Brother? Of course, we didn’t have so much responsibility then than we do now. I have decided to come and join you Brother. When I heard of your departure, I prepared my sword and charged here as soon as possible. You don’t mind having me help you out do you?”
Sun Jian smiled, “Your aide would be greatly appreciated. I have a small unit further North, past the Merchant stop, digging holes to prepare for the enemy to meet their end for stealing our supplies. I will need to present in the initial attack to scare off the enemy, then once the trap has been successful, you and your men can ambush the enemy or go round through the forest to avoid the trap. Not too hard for you?”
“Piece of cake”, Sun Jing answered, as he pulled the reins on his horse, “Well I better be off then. Catch up later!”, as he rushed off towards the area of the special unit to carry out his plan.
”Interception”
The time was ripe. The Merchant Supply carriage had stopped for its usual breaks and the few guards formed the ring to “protect it”. Sun Jian’s forces waited in silence in the forest, to await their attack, while Sun Jing set up the trap further North. All that was needed was the bait.
“The bass told us ta raid a new supply train comin dis way. Let’s go!”, shouted a large man with a longsword in his hand, who would presumably be the leader of the attack, as they charged from the North to the Carriage in their numbers.
The Merchant saw the attack, then slowly nodded to the guards, who nodded, and got into position at the front, while the Merchant got into the Carriage and begun to turn it around, seeing that the supplies belonged to the City anyway.
“Charge! These goodies are ours for the taking!”, he roared, as his troops begun to close in on the few guards, but then, one flank of Sun Jian’s army charged into the fray and lined up with the few guards. Though there was more defenders, the attackers had no fear, “They may have more! But we still have the Advantage! Continue the attack!”.
Once the attackers clashed swords with the men, Sun Jian nodded, as his remaining forces lined up behind the frontline to reinforce them, with him right at the back, waiting for his time to jump out at them. The Tiger lies in wait and watches his prey until the moment is right....This was the opportunity Sun Jian was waiting for.
The Leader laughed, “Pathetic! They may have more and are pushing us back but we cannot let our bass down. Now come on! Use your strength and charge the enemy back and divide their spirits!”, as he also joined the fray.
Sun Jian laughed, not only for his amusement of their actions but also as a signal for his troops as they moved aside for him, as he charged forward, and roared, “I am Sun Jian, the Tiger of Jiangdong! Who dares attack my supplies! You shall all pay and be cut down by my blade for your actions!”, as he raised his sword and slashed it infront of him. With his help, Sun Jian’s force began to push them back.
Once the attackers heard Sun Jian’s name, they trembled in fear, and seeing he could not raise morale any further, he then thought of something, “All men! Retreat from this place. There is much more glory to be made elsewhere than here!”, as he begun to retreat. The soldiers did not argue, as they turned and ran.
Sun Jian smiled, “It’s down to you now Brother”, then turned to his forces, “The Supplies are safe, now let’s laugh at the enemy!”, as the whole army begun to laugh at the retreating forces. Once they were gone, he then begun to return back to the city to inform everyone of their success knowing Sun Jing would finish them off.
The Attackers continued to run away, but with the taunts and laughter from Sun Jian’s army, some of the men begun to tremble, “You all fought bravely today. We shall have our revenge but in greater numbers!”. SUDDENLY troops infront of him had disappeared and seemed that they were not going forward. Eventually, the troops stopped. The leader was curious about what was wrong and saw that ¾ of his forces had now gone, some from the attack and now by the trap that was laid for them. The only way across was through the forest, “Everyone have courage. We must return home. The enemy has gone home so we need not fear”, as he led his remaining men into the forest to go round the trap so they could leave this place.
Sun Jing smiled as he saw the trap come to a success, and then as planned, the enemy came into the forest where he was waiting with his unit. He turned to one of his soldiers, “Race back to Sun Jian and inform him to rejoin us. We will be able to find out who their boss is and together we can destroy these rebels who dare attack Wu”. The soldier nodded, then quietly moved away from the soon-to-be-fight to contact Sun Jian. It was likely if a counter attack was made, that Sun Jing would be on his own with his unit for the time-being.
”Fate of the Duel”
Once the enemy were all inside the forest, Sun Jing laughed, “Attack for the glory of Wu! And for our Lord Sun!”, as his forces surrounded the enemy, but Sun Jing was not interested with the troops but the leader, as he charged to him, “So your the leader of this pathetic force. How about a duel with the brother of the Tiger?”
The Leader was furious. If he denies, morale would plummet, but either way he could meet his end, but maybe he could take the life of Sun Jian’s brother for his actions today, “Ha! Done. All troops must stop attacking. Whoever loses the Duel, the troops must defect to the winner’s side. Agreed!”, as Sun Jing’s and the Leader’s forces split up to avoid any attacks, but both sides remained in defence.
“No sweat! Your move!”, Sun Jing called as he lifted his sword in position. Due to the weight of his sword, he could easily defend himself, but his blows would not be as strong as his brother’s sword but he was confident he would win.
The Leader laughed, then charged forward and raised his sword, “Your a gonna from the might of...”
Sun Jing smiled, as he approached but raising his sword was a fool move, leaving his lower body vulnerable, as he slashed his blade across his vulnerable area, causing him to fall off his horse.
The leader turned to his forces, “There is no honor in disobeying our promises”, then turned to Sun Jing, “You win”.
Sun Jing kicked him, then brought his sword to his neck, “Now tell me. Who is your boss who sent you all to steal our supplies! No answer, I shall finish you off! You still have a chance to recover from my attack if you get it tended too as soon as possible”.
The care for the defeated officer was surprising to him, that he turned to Sun Jing, “The Sun family are indeed strong as they say. You are after Yan Yu, officer of Yan Baihu who has a grudge against you, as he feels Wu should be his, and now he is an outcast. If you defeat Yan Yu, Yan Baihu would have to conjure up another scheme, but least your supplies would be safe. He is hiding out in a mountain North of here”.
Sun Jing placed his sword back into its holder, then ripped a part of the enemy’s cloth armour and used it to make a bandage for the wound, before climbing onto his horse , “The forces of Wu are strong. The supply train has been saved. The attackers have surrendered and believe in our power. It is now time for the final attack and prevent further attacks from Yan Yu. All men, let’s go!”.
”The Counter Attack”
With Wei Huan dealing with the southern areas of Wu, and Sun Jian successfully repelling the North. It was now time to finish it so it would not happen again. The Final Attack was coming nearer.
Sun Jing’s forces were outside Yan Yu’s camp, Sun Jian was charged to reinforce his brother after sending a message to Wei Huan, and Wei Huan after receiving the news, finished his attack in the South and made his way to the Mountain. Though he may arrive later, he decided to help make them faster by all soldiers sat with the mounted units, to help improve movement.
Sun Jing turned from left to right to his forces and whispered, “The great strategist Sun Tzu says a great strength would make the enemy believe you are near. Our advantage is the Mountain, so let us go round the rear and climb to the top, where we will make a noise, which will echo round them and cause all their forces to come out to attack, then half of this unit can fire our arrows at them, while the other goes back down and waits till Sun Jian arrives, then you can enter the Mountain and take the guards of their supplies.....Let’s move out!”, then turned to a soldier who he sent back the way they came to report to his Brother.
It took awhile to get up to the top but it did give Sun Jian's forces time to arrive. Sun Jing turned to his men, giving them a nod as they began to bang their swords against their shields as if they were drums and also chanting as if they were marching to war, to add to the effect.
Yan Yu's forces took the bait, as they all rushed out, "Be cautious. The enemy is here. Stay on the defensive and do not attack until you spot the enemy!".
Sun Jing smiled and nodded again, as the back of his unit begun to climb down the Mountain and Archers began to fire down on the enemy below. At the same time, Sun Jian had received the soldier's message and charged into Yan Yu's camp, "I am Sun Jian, the Tiger of Jiangdong. Who dares steal from my lands!".
Yan Yu mounted onto his horse, seeing that the enemy were both above (seeing that the arrows came from ontop of them) and to the front, "Everybody, this is just a foolish enemy ploy and are trying to taunt us to attack. Let us join together so we may become stronger and knock back these weaklings!".
Yan Yu's forces moved together so everyone reinforced each other as they headed towards Sun Jian. Arrows continued to fire under the command of Sun Jing who stressed to only hit the enemy, and his second half had reached the mountain, so they entered, and with their weapons ready, ran down to the end and slaughtered the supply guards in the tunnel, "These supplies now belong to Wu!".
News had travelled through Yan Yu's army about the loss of supplies and that it didn't help with his numbers diminishing before his eyes but he could not give up.
Sun Jing and his forces rejoined each other at the bottom of the Mountain in Yan Yu's camp, to provide extra protection to their newly-acquired supplies, while Sun Jian continued to fight until Yan Yu was surrounded with just a few men round him, "It is over Yan Yu", as he thrust his word through him, knowing that if he escaped or was allowed to live, the supplies could once again be attacked.
It was not long after Sun Jian called a return home that they saw Wei Huan's forces approach which were rapidly approaching. Once they got closer, both sides stopped and Wei Huan sighed, "You saying I've come all this way and miss the fun!"
Sun Jian laughed, "Fraid so Wei Huan, but I did have help from my younger brother, Sun Jing", as Sun Jing revealed himself, now that his and Wei Huan's forces had merged with Sun Jian's aswell as the defected enemies, "Pleasure to meet you Wei Huan. have not saw you in action but if my Brother accepted you, you must have talent".
Wei Huan smiled, then took his position to the left side of Sun Jian with Sun Jing on the right, as they all marched home.
”Aftermath”
The supply routes were fixed, the Bandits repelled, the menace behind it was eliminated though Yan Baihu still remained. It was known as Wang Lang aided the Bandit but since he was no longer here, it was unknown who Yan Baihu would turn to, but it was foreseeable that he would want revenge and to attack Sun Jian for taking the life of Yan Yu, but now was the time to celebrate their victory rather than thinking of what could happen, as the officials once again meet Lord Sun but in the dining hall this time, along with Sun Jing and Wei Huan, "We are here to celebrate our victory against the Bandit forces under the leadership of the rebel Yan Yu and that our supply line has been improved and we have also recieved gifts from the people in gratitude. I have also sent out my army to help the farmers in the fields, so we can expand our fields and make more profit in the Market. I thank you all for your assistance. Now, raise your glasses - to the future of Wu!"
