Zhang Liao was away for a long time to rediscover his roots and what path he needed to take. He entered Xu Chang and heard that there was a new leader, so he decided he needed to meet this man.
When he reached the palace, he told the guards to inform their lord that Zhang Liao of Mayi wishs to see him

The guards nodded and left into the palace. Moments later they appeared, ushering Zhang Liao inside the palace. The inside of the palace was radically different from what it once was. It was no longer a place of lavish decorations. Now it wasn't without them, but they all had purpose. The banners flowed from overhead were simple, dark blue and very daunting. Guards were stationed around, they looked fit and alert. On the way to the throne room, they passed a window that looked down upon the training grounds. The men were training unlike what they had done in the past.
The guard led Zhang Liao into the throne room, which was slighlty more ornate. There were a few trinkets here and there, a few paintings, caligraphy, but what was most dominate, was a sculpture of a half finished phoenix in the middle of the room. It wasn't big, it was about a man's height. Working on it was a man who was shirtless and sweaty. He turned and smiled. He wiped his forehead and turned, "Ah. Zhang Liao. I have heard of your exploits!" Kang Ren said walking forward.

Liao bowed to the man, So you people of Wei have hears of my exploits, well what they are nothing special. Liao said as he got back up and examined the room

Kang Ren smiled, Zhang Liao was humble and he like it. He nodded before him and smiled. His smile nice and warm. However, inside, he put up a wall. He did this because he was unsure of the man before him. He smiled and turned back to his sculpture. He chisieled away and asked, "Tell me, what do you think of me becoming the leader of Wei? This must be... different. Many have come with the name of Cao Cao. Most leave." Kang Ren said with a small hint of sadness on his voice. It was true he wasn't famous around the central plains. Only if he was out west, then they would know his name... Kang Ren shook his head and returned to his sculpture.
