The Battle of Hu Lao GateBackgroundThe Han has fallen down, holding only by the few pockets of faithful servants. After Dong Zhuo abused his power within the capital he apppointed Emperor Xian, the new Son of Heaven - the younger child is far easily manipulated and he removed as many political enemies as possible. Since then he has remained in Luoyang; remaining unopposed until now.. The Coalition of remaining feudal leaders and lords arise to smite down his tyrant. In a quick response; Dong Zhuo sends his adopted son - Lu Bu to the frontlines to dispatch these heroes. The two sides meet at the strong defensive grounds of Hu Lao, the last defence to enter or leave the capital. A strong place; but easily overcome. The capital is already in recover after the previous invasion by the Yellow Turbans. MapKeyWhite - Snow Black - Siege Base (capture for siege weapons) Gray - Mountains - Light Gray are moveable paths but slow. Brown Spikes - Caltrops Gray with Brown Door - Main Gate Brown Fortress - Camp Red/Maroon Fortress - Main Camp To clear things up... Eatern Gate is Hu Lao. Northern Gate is Si Shui Starting AreasDong Zhuo Force's - Anywhere inside the main two gates. (Si Shui & Hu Lao) Alliance Force's - Anywhere outside the gates, you may select which side you wish to start. RulesNo double posting. No godmodding. No meta-gaming. [ All the three above will result in punishment] Post the troops you are using in your first post otherwise you WILL be considered troop-less. You CAN die in this scenario. I would remind you for a neat and well presentated posts through-out this thread as well as acknowledging everyone within the thread. Spelling, use of good vocabulary and understanding of the historical context is recommended. Thanks, and enjoy. Mod: Lu Xiang (Colby)

Troops: 1,584 Men224 Lancers(Han Cavalry) 235 Shields(Han Swordsmen) 430 Elites(Han Halberdiers) 275 Piercers(Han Spearmen) 300 Marksmen(Han Crossbowmen) 50 Runners(Messengers) Hou Cheng(NPC) Chen Gong(NPC) Wei Xu(NPC) Song Xian(NPC) I have also brought along a number of NPCs that I will use. They have no troops and are merely my captains. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lu Bu looked out on the field from atop Hu Lao Gate. This was his moment. A massive battle that he took center stage in. It was his job to defend Hu Lao Gate, the larger of the two fortifications defending the route to Luo Yang. His flags flew high above Hu Lao, with Dong Zhuo's banners being unfurled from the battles so that they hung down the walls. Hu Lao was now a massive stronghold of Black and Red. Bu had brought Kouji with him for the battle. The Flying General figured that the Pirate Lord would be present for the battle, it would prove interesting to test Kouji's mettle. Now the boy looked cold and sad. He had not spoken since the morning. Crossbowmen lined the walls of Hu Lao, preparing to launch their missiles at the first enemy that came into range. The Swordsmen were also atop the walls, in case any hostiles were able to get atop the stone ramparts. Bu's prized Halberdiers and his spearmen were in front of the gate in a loose formation amongst the caltrops. No cavalry would survive an encounter with them. The Lancers were stationed behind Hu Lao Gate and were soon sent off to the Siege camp in the south to procure defensive siege weapons. Lu Bu's runners were also stationed behind Hu Lao, awaiting their master's orders. "It looks like the entire land is pitted against us, my lord.", Chen Gong said dramatically. "They are all petty nobles out for their own. They are weak!", Lu Bu growled. "True, but we cannot underestimate them. Heh, I noticed you went to bed early last night, my lord. You enjoyed a warm bed, heh heh, and here you are radiating masculinity, ready to slaughter your fellow man, ha ha ha!", Gong said, teasing his lord. Bu roared with laughter, poor Kouji, nothing escaped Gong's notice. He turned to his friend and spoke, with a smirk on his face. "You have no idea, Gong.""Oh I can only imagine.....", Gong said slyly.

400 Light cavalry 50 Royal Guards 200 archers 270 spearmen 300 Peasants = 1220 troops -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So it had began. The reign of terror will now become a reign of blood for the bloodiest battle the land will ever see was fast approaching. How could a tyrannous lord be allowed to become so powerful? The greatest generals in the land have come far and wide to put an end to Dong Zhou's life and empire. The leader of the coalition was none other than Yuan Shao, he is a powerful warlord from the north, one of 3 men fit to lead the coalition. In his opinion Cao Cao and Sun Jian were the others.
Yuan Shao was based at the main allied camp, not far from Hu Lao gate, where supposedly the best warrior in the land was based. However Yuan Shao did not care he had talented generals at his disposal, Lu Bu's cousin Lu Xiang springs to mind. The bulk of Yuan's army was cavalry but also featured a number of peasants wanting to earn their name, his army was prepared for Lu Bu to defeat everyone and charge the camp but Yuan always prepared his army for the worst case scenario, never underestimate and opponent and be prepared for the worst. He waited for the others so he could give is orders.

--------------------------------------------------- Yuan Shao did not have to wait for this young man's presence, the assassin already having ridden there with his employer, straight from Chen Liu. And yes, he had ridden alone. The one-man mercenary force, Hiei, was all set for war, with the Raven Fists worn, Death, Despair and Heikage latched onto different parts of his back. Being just one man, his contribution may not be as large as the other generals, but he was not here for the glory, no. He was here, because he was paid to be here. And that was enough for him. He smirked to himself, as he stood somewhere behind Yuan Shao, arms crossed lightly as he looked out for a moment, towards Hu Lao Gate.
Lu Bu, huh? Rumored to be China's strongest warrior, the man was to be their enemy this day. And it excited Hiei, how this one man was trusted this whole place against the many lords of the Han. His body shivered slightly in anticipation. Hiei wanted to throw himself in front of the man and challenge him to a spar. True, Hiei made most of his profits as an assassin, but that did not mean that he did not know how to fight in a war, for in the end, his expertise was swordsmanship.
With that in mind, it was now up to Lord Yuan Shao to decide where Hiei would fight. Whether in the front lines, to decimate whatever troops Lu Bu would place in his army's way, or through the mountains with a few other swordsmen, to launch a surprise attack upon the guardians of Hu Lao gate. Either way, it did not matter. As long as he was in on the action, and he was confident that he would be, he'd be satisfied with the day. He uncrossed his arms, allowing himself a soft chuckle as he stepped forward, keeping to the side but putting himself still in his employer's view.
"I'm ready when you are, Lord Yuan Shao. Just tell me where you need me to be."
Hiei would then realised that this would be the first real skirmish that he would be in, at least, here in China. The last time he was involved in something like this, it was back at Pu Yang, where Hiei had assassinated Zhang Bo, the Yellow Turban commander's head destroying the defender's morale and allowing his current employer, alongside Lord Cao Cao, to retake the city. He had not fought much after leaving the capital, basically riding past to display his prize, before heading off to claim his reward.
This, would be his first war. He scratched the back of his head. Perhaps he should have been a tad bit more prepared for this and bought himself an army. Then again, he was not much of a leader. True, he was taught the arts of war and leadership by his late father, but it was not really something that appealed to him.
Ah hell, might as well make the best with what he had.
Himself. [/size]

He was at the back of the pack but he knew it meant he could use those in front as a living meat shield. He didn't care all that much for the other armies since he just wanted to hurry and get Kouji back from Lu Bu. He just hoped the boy was still alive and okay. "Troops! Formations!" Rui snarled to his men as they scurried to form up their ranks. Rui's light cavalry moved forward and moved into a arrow shaped formation whilst thinning themselves out a little. Within the arrow shaped head of the army archers filled the gap to help provide protection and a hell storm of arrows for when the time came. The swordsmen and spearmen moved in behind to form what could be classed as the body of the arrow. The crossbowmen and militia remained near the rear with the Han cavalry keeping guard over them and providing protection. Kenshi mean while stayed back at the camp with the pirates. They would act as reinforcements and guards. Rui turned to his latest addition to the pirates forces, Tsuki, a crazed teenager with a dangerous hunger for human flesh. Rui grinned to himself in a dark manner as he decided it was time to push forward to meet up with Lord Yuan Shao for orders. Tsuki moved next to Rui and displayed her impressive black armour to the world. "Lets rip these mutts to pieces!" Rui cried out to boost the moral in his units. Rui was ready for the battle and was eager to sink his teeth into Lu Bu and Dong Zhou.

Luo Yang.
The capital of the Han was fortified by two nearby gates; Si Shui and Hu Lao, both watching either side of possible intrusion upon the center of the empire. Yet now, the heart of the Han had withered, died, passed away, upon the simple entrance of the dirty scumbag, the tyrant, known as Dong Zhuo. And now they were here, the rest of China, to make a stand against that scumbag. Would it be easy? Not even one like Wei Yan dared to make an assumption, the enemy forces suppressing his own pride.
Yet he always had the option to free himself from the strict bonds of the Coalition if he had to, no?
Wei Yan rarely rode on horseback. After all those years of fighting alongside his men in the west, it was only natural for him to continue in his battle practices even now. Stepping along the front lines of his rather small yet ready unit of mere 400 men, he looked upon the large gate in the near distance, standing upon the white blanket of snow that covered the ground, even when the multitudes had stepped upon it. Even now, the snow was very slowly creating a thin layer of soft white on top of his dark braided bundle of hair as Wenchang grimaced.
Si Shui Gate would fall.
There were rumors, and by now, enough eye-witnessed proof, that the so-called mightiest warrior of the land, none other than Lu Bu himself, was stationed right before Hu Lao Gate as a lackey of Dong Zhuo. Ha, let the fool show what meager prowess that he had; a battle cannot be won by one man alone. His commanding skills had yet to be shown, yet one thing was for sure that a single man's strength could not prevail over multitudes of enemies.
Hmm, so far so good. Yet he did realize now that he lacked the usage of siege weapons... Looking to his left, Wei Yan immediately recognized the dark fortification. Ah, a perfect storage for what they needed. His grimace changed swiftly into a grin as he changed direction to face the base. They would make but a short trip there before they would advance upon Si Shui and take over.
"Move... Get... siege... weapons..."
He stepped forward.

200 Spearman 200 cavalry Liao walks up to Lu Bu, My lord this will be a long battle, we must stand firm and push the enemy away from Hu Lao Gate, but with you here you might as well swat them away like flies, I said with a little smirk.
I turn to Chen Gong, Oh master Gong, nice to see your Military genius mind here, I said, as I took a look at the boy and knew his displeasure.
Liao bows to the group of men, I must get to my post, I say as I run to my White Stallion, Yin, and ride off to my post, looking over to the horizon seeing the huge army in and knew instantly that this will be a battle to remember.

Zhang Smith approached from the south end of Hu Lao Gate. Looking around he seen many other generals ready to take down Doug Zhuo and is tyranny. Smith did not know much of these men, and this battle was more of a scouting report for him. Smith leaned back and looked up at the sky seeing a few snowflakes falling. He looked back at hunter."Do You know enjoy the snow, winter is a very relaxing season don't ya think?" Hunter nodded in agreement. "Yes Zhang Smith I do agree with you on that, however shall we start the plan?" "Haha So eager to start battle, Carry on."
Hunter took the 100 archers and 25 messengers with him. Smith sent 25 messengers to Yuan Shao. Smith wanted those messages to relay messages between him and Yuan Shao, and as well to scout out what he is capable of. Smith looked back at the rest of his men. He raised his halberd and his troops began to let out a battle cry. " Men Today you will experience a battle of a lifetime" Smith let out a small smirk and put on his helmet.

Troops: * 100 Light cavalry * 100 Volunteers * 50 messengers * 100 archers (*Also noted in signature) * 200 swordsmen -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaihime found the thick blanket of snow that covered all in her sight rather relaxing and peaceful. It was a shame that it would soon be no longer such a pure white; blood would soon stain it a violent crimson. Closing her eyes as the cold wind blew over her face Kaihime listened to the sounds of the pirate forces troops footsteps. This would be her first major battle, well that she could remember. Who would she meet on this very battlefield? Who would be on the other side of her blades? These and many other thoughts crossed through her mind as she sat listening to the wind blow past her and the snow cruch underfoot of the troops.
Snapping her eyes open as the sound of Tsu past her ears Kaihime saw her lord (Rui Takiri). She approached him calmly, although in reality her heart was racing and her body running on adrenaline.; she was excited by battle. "My lord, what are your orders?"

Zhi rode to a stop as he got beside his lord, Lu Bu. Zhi could feel the excitment build up to a point to where it was about to explode. It was probably just nerves, after all, this was Zhi's first big battle. Zhi knew that on this battlefield, he would make a name for himself. From this day forward, all of China would fear Zhi Fang and the might of Lu Bu's army.
Zhi turned towards Lu Bu and bowed, saying,"I am here my lord. I shall use my sword to cut us a path through theses scum and towards a new future. We shall find many warriors of great skill here, a perfect battle for you my lord to show them why they should fear your name!!" Zhi then turned towards Cheng Gong, saying,"If you need a man for one of your strategies, then I shall be your man. I will help you with whatever you need done." Zhi waited there, enjoying the calm, savoring it. For in a matter of minutes, that peace will be replaced with the savage and brutal sounds of war.

Troops Total: 3,000 1,000 Han Swordsmen 500 Han Spearmen 500 Han Halberdiers 700 Han Crossbowmen 200 Han Cavalry 50 Messengers 50 Royal Guard
"It is finally here. The new beginning of a country ruled by a god. Not even the Emperor could stop me. The most powerful man in China was being manipulated so easily. Only a God could do such a feat. I am the ultimate being I am man no more. The people will soon worship me and build monuments and temples in my name. I am all powerful, all knowing, immortal god. I see the world in clarity. As if I was blind since I was born into this world. I've never felt more alive." Dong Zhuo steadily began laughing happily like a madman as he danced in circles throughout the throne room to show his magnificence to the mortals although unworthy of seeing such grace and holiness.
Unfortunately his advisor interrupted his display of godliness. What a fool he was to think he could do such a thing. But Zhuo listened to what he had to say. "My lord, the Coalition has arrived and they are preparing to attack both Hu Lao Gate and Shi Shui Gate. Just informing you your uh greatness." the Advisor spoke quite oddly and with many stutters. But that wasn't the problem. "Do you take me as a fool! Did you think I didn't already know! I am a God! Guards! Kill this man and don't get his filthily mortal blood on the floor. Ugh his disgusting words have stained my ears. Someone tell Li Ru to take my army and deal with the dogs before they ruin my evening. I am a God and the only protection I need is Divine Protection. Now go!" Dong Zhuo commanded with a booming voice as he sat back down onto his cushioned throne.
[Za Ban]
Za Ban stood in the inner part of the Gatehouse near the gate winch that opened and closed the gate. He looked out to the enemy encampment and sighed. Even though he didn't wish for it to come to ending many lives. His goal to destroy the Han was more important than a wish. Looking around he wondered what would happen if it all ended here for him. But it was immediately dispersed from his mind when he saw something move in a dark corner. He drew closer to the corner slowly with his hand firmly gripped on the hilt of his sword. His curiosity was going out of control. Is it a person? Was it the wind? What moved?!
[Ryu Yin] Troops 400 Peasants 600 Militia 500 Spearmen 500 Swordsmen 100 Crossbowmen 1,000 Marauders 280 Hunters 200 Raider Cavalry
"Goodbye fool." Ryu uttered to Za Ban as his white teeth appeared from the darkness with his Crossbow in hand Ryu took the stock and bashed his soon to be dead leader in the face.
Walking over Za Ban's unconscious body. "I'm very sorry for this but you get in my way and I have plans. So die." Ryu dragged his body into the dark corner and threw a note onto his chest. "Read it when you wake up dead man." Ryu laughed as he exited the chamber and into the cold exterior of the Gate house. Crossbowmen and Hunters lined the walls next to the gatehouse. He walked down the steps and to the camp.
"Sergeant! I want you to tell the Peasants to fetch Flammable Oil from the siege base and bring it here lots and lots of it so we can mix it with the Boiling Oil in the Gate house. I want plenty of barrels brought here like 40 of them. We'll give some to the Hunters to use for Flaming arrows as well. This gate will be defended so no enemy may walk on it's walls or through it's gatehouse. This gate shall be and will be successfully defended even if it has to come out with a few scratches. It's made out of fine stone and I doubt that it'll fall so easily." Ryu said proudly. He was defending a key position in this battle and he was proud that he was.

Lu Ling Qi stood at the base of the stairs to Hu Lao Gate, her father, Lu Bu, looked out at the battlefield atop the ramparts of the renowned Hu Lao Gate. She was always impressed by her father's bravado and stark arrogance. To him all the world was an anthill to be stomped on by his heel. The whole of China had assembled to defeat Dong Zhou, but, Lu Ling Qi thought, they ought to aim for Lu Bu's head in earnest.
The daughter of Lu Bu chuckled at the thought. No amount of men could hope to bypass the Sky Piercer and strike her father a fatal blow. For that she admired him. If not for her gender perhaps Lu Ling Qi would've taken more qualities from her father.
Earning respect from the courts was an endeavor in itself, being Lu Bu's daughter helped. Their names became infamous in every corner of the country.
"My lady, if you wish to leave Lou Yang you must do so now." Lu Ling Qi's faithful manservant, Kao Ba, bowed dutifully clasping his hands together and bending a knee. He desperately wanted Lu Ling Qi to evacuate, if any harm came to her it would be his head on the blade of Sky Piercer.
Lu Ling Qi looked over her shoulder, showing him a cold glance. "Must I remind you that I am by my father's side by choice, Kao Ba? She said blankly, her face betrayed nothing of her emotions.
Kao Ba slowly raised his head, "It is as you wish my lady." He rose to his feet and went to perform another task. The people around Lu Ling Qi moved in a haste, strengthening defenses and following orders given by generals. She simply stood up right, arms crossed, and looked at her father atop Hu Lao Gate.
This encounter with Yuan Shao would decide the entire fate of China. The thoughts weighed heavily on Lu Ling Qi's mind as she fetched her katars. Summary: Lu Ling Qi has affiliated herself with Dong Zhou, and has appeared at Hu Lao Gate. Troops:None.

The stratagem of the coalition had been adjourned; a lack of Intel being the only reason as to why no formal plans had been sketched together during the meetings. Instead, they were hurled together – a fresh band wagon of inept rulers and ambitious soldiers, and then hurled to the dogs of war that stood stronger than any building he had forged.
It would not do if their enemies had prepared, if the coalition was at least a little organised Yuan Shao would have issued some form of plan. Instead, it seemed more as if half of the coalition charged north whilst the more…daring fellows charged west. None of it would succeed without efficient planning, but who was he – but a dark madman to the ideals of these zealots. No one, he assured himself, smiling, no one at all.
“My Lord.”
He beckoned his master through the mind-numbing task of his venture, knowing the location of his care-free steed. No such beast would be aware of the chaos ahead; no beast would feel the dead weight of a corpse upon its back in fright and misery. A horse did not feel what he felt, nor shared his desires. It simply did what it was told to…it was a simple obedient lifestyle.
His lord was ahead, but only by a few paces as they dared closer to the west.
“Unless Yuan Shao acts, there is little we can do to save the current state of affairs.”
He knew what Lu Xiang had asked previously, but even with that victory looming in the distance, he could not shake the uncertainty of this outcome. He had enjoyed predicting everything, and ruling everything – but now, like Lu Xiang, their battle and fate were put to the hands of the coalition’s leader, a man he had even voted for and yet had no trust with. Yuan Shao.
“If the coalition is to fall…” he ventured off, trailing his words and pausing at the scenery ahead. He could see the flower beds and the grass, before it turned sodden and black with the heat and the beat of passing hooves. His enemies were ahead, and in full toll too.
“Then we shall reign as much chaos as possible whilst our men face the sins of the past.”
Summary: Xiang Yu has arrived attached to Lu Xiangs’s unit. He has brought no troops with him. He hopes Yuan Shao will lead the coalition.

Lu Xiang 1000 Iron Pawns
He laughed, as him and his frostbitten milita marched upon the thick slopes of the winter grasped regions of the Emperor. A cold breath muttered from his mouth; a spiral of death and burning hate expired before a smile cracked on his face, cracking like glass.. like ice.. like this dying world around him. His ambitions remained within his head and within his fortress for now, it wasn't hard to sense his cruel and dark intentions however; but people casted him aside, without rank he had created a perfect scapegoat. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.. right? The dark hooves of the muscular steed pounding across the heavy snow of the untouched routes, they approached from the east.. hailing several hundred miles but stopping every couple of days. His men were going to be well rested for this fight.
His force wasn't huge; yet it wasn't small. It showed how much he cared, yet it was intimidating towards the foes. Teasing them almost.. like he didn't need anymore then a simple company of ten hundred. It also granted him the ability of commanding rather easily; strong blows with a tight but well fortified force.. not to mention the ability to adapt to the enivroment around him. A evil grin crossed over his face, following the lit torches along the road towards the main camp. Si Shui had no glory; Hu Lao was where the glory was. No doubt his pathetic excuse for a cousin would be guarding Hu Lao.. the one reason why Lu Xiang was even participating in this battle.
"Cousin, Lu Bu. How underserving you are of your title, status and acolades. Allow me to strip them from you, along with you head.."
His said; his eyes shaded over but still the cruel hollow man remained. His iron fists relaxed at the peak of the cliff; overseeing the main camp. He almost felt revolted that he would be using this structure.. it didn't look at all interesting or fearsome. Lu Xiang let out a long drawn sigh, nodding to Xiang Yu's comments. Victory was assure for Lu Xiang in this battle; no matter the outcome.
"Listen up, I have trained you with my own fingers. It is time the world witnesses the power of the Iron Crown.. first thing is first.. we move to secure the siege camp near Hu Lao gate. Move out, ensure that nobody gets there before us... nobody. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yessir!"
The exclaimed, rolling down the passage one after the other moving with haste towards the siege camp. A simple rush tactic; if the defenders weren't ready - then they would be blown to smitherines; if they were ready.. then Lu Xiang had a little something up his sleeve.
"Xiang Yu; I have a little something up my sleeve for you."
He laughed, passing a letter he had wrote up. Xiang Yu was a single agent which gave him the upper-hand on the battlefield. He extended his hand; almost forcing the letter into Xiang Yu's hands before nodding and riding off down the cliff to follow his unit to the siege camp.

There are alot of gates and alot of gatehouses. Please be very definitive on where you want to be. This is the last turn in which you can position yourself or I shall default you back to Dong Zhuo's position or Yuan Shao's! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!Turn 2 may commence! (Note: Siege Camps will take one turn to capture - this counts for all of them. Including the one inside the Camp of Dong Zhuo's forces. Also no sieges engines are prepared yet which means you will have to create them yourself; with your units. Depending on skills at manufacturing; workforce and resources remaining depends on how long it will take. Be logical people. Siege camps, cannot be fired upon from walls nor can you fire from siege camps to walls! Don't try to be cheap. Good luck, have fun!)
